Employee Pocketed Membership Dues

The Field Museum in Chicago recently disclosed that a theft, allegedly perpetrated by an employee over seven years, resulted in the loss of $900K.  According to this story on DNAinfo.com, the employee, who has not been charged, pocketed a percentage of museum membership fees and was fired in 2014.

Luckily the museum had crime insurance and they were able to recover their losses minus a deductible. In addition, they made changes to their procedures and tightened oversight on money handling.
